Gratitude has enormous power to bring more goodness to the interactions at your workplace. Yet, in my opinion, it is one of the most underutilized expression.
Saying “thank you” might seem like obvious advice. You might even have heard about it a lot of times. But there is unquestionably something special about the magical expression for expressing gratitude. Here are some key ideas to multiply this magic a zillion times:
Unexpected Thankfulness
We as humans are programmed to say thank you in response to a specific event. For example when a friend compliments or a co-worker goes above and beyond. While those are the standard opportunities to say thank you, try spending 5-10 minutes and think who could you thank right now and send the message over. This would add the genuineness and a surprise factor to your thank you and multiply its power and impact.
Respectful Thankfulness
Saying “thank you, Ryan” is the standard way you would usually say it. However, adding a pinch of extra respect is another way to make this thank you more delicious. Try saying “thank you, sir” and see the magic.
Persistent Thankfulness
Finally, one of the standard things we do is we say thank you and stop 🛑. I would highly recommend you to keep going- just pour your heart out of why are you thanking them. Even after they have accepted the gratitude and responded with something like: “Absolutely!”, “You totally deserve it!”, Very well deserved!”, “You’re welcome” or “My pleasure”; do not stop- try to keep going as much as you can.
And see the magic that happens
